Types of Data Recovery

There are different methods of performing Data Recovery with Apple and Windows based computers. Depending on how data and files were deleted or lost, the severity of computer damage, and the existing Data Backup plan already in place before the incident occurred. Each method will also depend on the tools available to perform the tasks required.

We recommend creating a Data Backup plan right after setting up your computer for the first time, or as soon as possible to ensure that you always have the most up to date backup and versions of your data and files.

Recovery with Hardware and Software

If you don’t have a backup plan configured on your Apple or Windows computer, then additional hardware and software are needed.

  • Data recovery software to scan and analyze your PC and storage drives
  • External hard drive to restore data and files without interrupting or overwriting the main storage drive in the PC

Recovery from Backups in macOS and OS X (10.6 and later)

Apple based computers running OS X 10.6 and later, including macOS 10.12 and later, provide the Time Machine app to create backups and recovery to restore data and files from a specific data and time.

A Tezkabyte on-site technician can configure Time Machine and create a Data Backup plan for your Apple computer.

Backups are not possible with this method if Time Machine is not already configured on your Apple computer. An alternative method is needed to recovery and restore your data and files.

Recovery from Backups in Windows (7 and later)

Windows based computers running Windows 7 and later provide several options for creating backups and restore points to recover from. Depending on the Data Backup plan configured on your PC, data and files can be restored from a specific data and time.

A Tezkabyte on-site technician can prepare and configure your Windows computer to create a customized Data Backup plan.

Backups are not possible with this method if a type of backup is not already configured on your Windows computer. An alternative method is needed to recovery and restore your data and files.

Recovery from a Damaged or Broken Computer

Depending on the severity of the damage, it’s possible to repair or replace specific parts of your desktop or laptop to make it work again and access your data and files.

If the damaged parts of the computer cannot be repaired or replace to make the PC work again, it’s also possible to perform data recovery with hardware and software by removing the main storage drive from the computer and working with it externally.

Recovery from physically damaged internal and external hard drives, or additional storage devices used as secondary storage, is very difficult to perform successfully. It’s also likely that very little data, or no data is recoverable.

Storage drives that no longer power on are considered as lost indefinitely.
